What can you do to help prevent climate change?

There are lots of things that people can do to help prevent climate change. Saving energy is one example. Using less energy means that less CO2 has to be emitted. For example, you can put on a thick sweater instead of switching on the heating, use energy-saving devices, switch things off rather than leaving them in stand-by, and much more.

Using sustainable energy sources like solar and wind energy also helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

‘Sustainable’ means that we use something today while also making sure that people will still be able to do so in future. Oil supplies are running out, so this is not a sustainable source of energy. There will always be sun and wind, so these are sustainable sources of energy.

Other things that can help prevent climate change are cutting down fewer trees or making sure that new trees and plants are grown.
